The Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances
The Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS)
Directive, 2002/95/EC of February 13, 2003, was enacted by the European
Community to minimize the impact of end-of-life electrical and electronic
equipment on the environment.
The Directive bans the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent
chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl
ethers (PBDE) in electrical and electronic products sold in the European
Union beginning July 1, 2006. As the move to RoHS compliant product
approaches, a strategic partnership must exist between Kimball Electronics
Group and our suppliers to insure a smooth transition.
- Kimball Electronics Group expects its suppliers to be actively
progressing towards RoHS compliance and make compliant parts available
as needed to support our initiative.
- Suppliers will be requested to certify the RoHS compliance status
of their parts and provide information as needed to confirm process
compatibility and traceability. The identification scheme employed
must clearly differentiate compliant parts from their predecessors
to avoid mix-ups and facilitate effective inventory management.
- In lieu of customer specific reporting requirements, suppliers
will be required to provide material declarations based on the
IPC-1752 standard.
Kimball Electronics Group is committed to doing business with environmentally
responsible suppliers and requires its suppliers to comply with all
applicable laws, regulations, orders, and policies in providing materials
and services to Kimball Electronics Group.
